New Construction and Custom Home Wiring in the Phoenix Valley

Wiring a house from bare studs is the one chance anybody gets to do it right without tearing anything open. Every decision made at rough-in either serves the homeowner for thirty years or becomes an expensive retrofit later. At The Wire Guy Electric, we wire custom homes, casitas, guest houses, detached shops, and additions across the Valley, working from plans with builders and directly with homeowners building their own.

What a Full New Construction Package Includes

• Temporary power. The construction pole and service so the rest of the trades can work.
• Underground and slab rough. Conduit and sleeves placed before the pour, because everything not sleeved becomes a saw-cut later.
• Service and panel. Sized off a real load calculation for the finished house, not a builder default.
• Full rough-in. Boxes, home runs, circuits, and can layout set before insulation and drywall.
• Structured and low voltage. Data, coax, speaker, camera, and doorbell pathways run while walls are open.
• Trim out. Devices, fixtures, fans, switches, and panel labeling.
• Final walkthrough. Every circuit tested and labeled, with the homeowner walked through their own panel.

Size the Service for the House You Will Actually Live In

This is where we push hardest, because it is the decision most likely to be regretted.

A new Valley home is not the load profile of a 1995 home. Between two AC systems, a pool, a spa, one or two EV chargers, a casita, a shop, and eventually a battery, the connected load adds up fast. A 200-amp service is the baseline we build around for most custom homes, and we run the calculation against what the house will look like in ten years rather than move-in day.

Adding capacity later, once the drywall is up and the meter is set, means a panel or full service replacement. Doing it correctly during construction costs a fraction of that. Our panel replacement page covers what that work involves when it does have to happen after the fact.

Rough-In Is Your Last Cheap Change Order

We walk the house with the homeowner at rough-in, before insulation, and it is the most valuable hour of the project. Standing in the framed space, people see things the plan never showed them: the switch on the wrong side of the door, the outlet the future desk needs, the pendant spacing over an island that is wider than it looked on paper, the missing floor outlet in a great room with no walls near the seating.

Moving a box at that stage takes minutes. Moving it in April after the walls are painted is a drywall repair, a texture match, and a paint call.

Things We Plan For in Arizona Specifically

• Attic heat. A Valley attic runs brutally hot for months. Conductor sizing accounts for ambient derating rather than a chart pulled from a milder climate.
• Block and stucco. Exterior runs get planned before the block goes up, not chased into it afterward.
• Casitas, shops, and detached garages. Feeders and subpanels sized for what actually goes in them, including a mini-split and a compressor rather than a light and a receptacle.
• Pool and spa equipment. Bonding, disconnects, and circuits planned with the pool contractor instead of after they show up.

• Solar and battery ready. Panel space and location planned so a future install does not require moving equipment.

Lighting Is Worth Doing Deliberately

Most new homes get a generic can layout on a grid. The houses that look finished got a lighting plan: layered ambient, task, and accent, dimmers where they matter, and cabinet and cove lighting built in rather than added later. • We hit rough-in dates. Framing, insulation, and drywall are all stacked behind us and we know it.
